Black Atlas – “Moonsong”

June 30, 2015

The gorgeous, epic, psych-thriller track “Moonsong” was just recently released by The Black Atlas. An intriguing mesh of Sinatra and doom-metal. Don’t know how else to describe it. The Black Atlas’ “The Other”, the first in a series of EP’s to be released, is currently available.

Edmonton Air Guitar Championships

June 29, 2015

I’m always amazed by the intense culture / community of other worlds. You know what I mean, right? Like, I once went with Heather to a knitting and sewing fair, and it was just astounding how hard-core some of those people were. The doo-dads. The innovations. The myriad of patterns and methods. The same could [...]

RIP Pawnshop Live

June 28, 2015

This year’s trend of live venues calling it quits continued earlier this week, with Edmonton’s latest casualty being the Pawnshop on Whyte Avenue. According to Edmonton Journal’s story by Fish Griwkowsky (around here, if you just refer to him as Fish people will know who you’re talking about), one of the biggest culprits this time [...]

Friday Night Jams With Celebrities

June 27, 2015

So whilst Aaron is hanging out at Sled this week, I remain ensconced in the fair city of Edmonton. And regular readers will know that I’ve been without a project of my own for a while now. Sure, been practicing some of my own material in the evenings and such, but I’m first and foremost [...]

Renny Wilson – Punk Explosion / Extension

June 20, 2015

Edmonton expat Renny Wilson’s latest release – “Punk Explosion” – was issued last year as a limited abridged cassette, but is being reissued by one of my favourite Canadian labels – Mint Records – on July 10th as a vinyl release. Now called “Punk Explosion/Extension”, it comes complete with a few extra tracks as well, including [...]

New Moon Folk Club – gofundme ends June 21st

June 18, 2015

As most of the local music scene knows, the Full Moon Folk Club has decided to call it quits. The group has put on concerts in the city for, well, god even knows how long. Thirtyish years I believe. But from their ashes, rising like a phoenix, is the New Moon Folk Club, hoping to [...]
