My friend Greg mentioned this band to me last week (side note: his son Bennett was born just about exactly twelve hours prior to our Jameson Yorke last November), commenting that “they are such a great mix of James Brown + White Stripes”. Well, he also mentioned The Heavy in the same email, from which the conversation veered directly to the Squamish Music Festival (they’re performing there obviously).
But then I returned to Vintage Trouble this week. A Los Angeles “soul and rock” band fronted by Ty Taylor and founded in 2010. They have just one album to date, “The Bomb Shelter Sessions”, from 2010. You can stream the official video for “Not Alright By Me” above. Very soulful. A little tearful. And just amazing vocals and guitar work.
You may remember New Jersey-born Taylor from his time as a contestant on Rock Star:INXS. He was also the guitarist/vocalist for R&B group Dakota Moon, who had an eponymous release in 1998, and then a sophomore album in 2002. Their singles have done pretty well on adult contemporary and adult top-40 charts. Taylor was significantly influenced by gospel music, having spent much of his youth in a Baptist Church choir.
Full tour itinerary after the jump.
