The Joy Formidable – “A Minute’s Silence” Record Store Day Release (Includes Springsteen Cover)

by New Music Michael on March 26 2013

Joy Formidable A Minute's SilenceI was just perusing this year’s Record Store Day releases (click here to view the list on the RSD website) yesterday, and denoted a star next to five items I was interested in – and three that might make good gifts for Heather. I’m actually quite excited about RSD this year, because for the first time in three years, I won’t be stuck in a CMA class all day. Yay!

But back to my main point – one of those starred items was from The Joy Formidable – another band I talk about quite a bit – and something called “A Minute’s Silence”.

Well, I received an email about that very release later in the day. So here’s the scoop. This special 12” single release features “A Minute’s Silence” as its A-side, a track recorded in 2012 during the same sessions that resulted in their newest album “Wolf’s Law”. The B-side is an acoustic cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Badlands”, recorded live during a Sirius XM session.

So if you’re a Joy Formidable fan like me, it’s probably something you’ll need for your collection. But please let me have one first. Thanks.

Make sure you say hello if you see me out and about on April 20th. And in case you’re curious, here’s what else I starred for myself:

* Grouplove / Frightened Rabbit / Manchester Orchestra – “Architech/Make It Be” 7″ single
* R.E.M. – “Live In Greensboro” EP
* Shearwater & Sharon Van Etten – “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” b/w “A Wake For the Minotaur” 7″ single
* Tame Impala – Tame Impala EP 12″ red vinyl
