There’s this Matt Mays gig poster on the window of Remedy Café. Has been for some time. And every time I walk past it eastbound, on the way to where I park my car on weekdays, I think to myself … “self, maybe you should go”.
Though I’m still not sure about the picture they used for the poster. I don’t really see Mays as a bandana guy, more of the down-to-earth rocker dude. Sort of like a modern-day Sebastian Bach. Chilled, relaxed, good guy to have a beer with, an exceptional amount of musical talent. In fact, talent that could probably be used in almost any creative field. Acting. Writing. Comedy. Painting. Sculpting.
Heck, I’ll make you a deal. If I ever get a chance to interview Matt, I’ll just hand him a piece of paper and a sketching pencil and ask him to make me a drawing instead of talking his ear off. Oh, and I’ll bring a couple beers for us to drink.
Anyways, what put me over the edge to attend was this new video of his, which arrived in my inbox last week. For the track “Indio”. Stream it below.
Now, at first I was a little put off. I mean, here’s this awesome little video shot in Costa Rica, and meanwhile Edmonton’s reversed course back into the depths of winter. With maximum temperatures of -15C, and two feet of snow in the past four days (yeh okay I don’t know it’s for sure two feet, but it’s a crapton that’s for sure).
But after a bit you can put that out of your mind and just enjoy the video. And the song. So you should all join me at the gig too. Or wherever Matt’s playing that you live. Trust me. Full itinerary follows the video (ticket links to all shows on Matt’s website).
