Except for some new and intriguing Cancon, it’s a bit of a slow week. Metal act Bison B.C. drops their third studio album, we welcome Diamond Rings’ sophomore release, and Of Montreal’s cacophony of color and sounds gives witness to “Daughter Of Cloud”.
Banks, Paul – Banks (Matador)
Bison B.C. – Lovelessness (Metal Blade). This Vancouver band’s last album, 2010’s “Dark Ages”, was Exclaim!’s #6 metal album of the year.
Diamond Rings – Free Dimensional (Astralwerks/Secret City). This artist’s sophomore release has been getting some good buzz north and south of the border. Apparently he’ll be backed by a full band for his upcoming tour, which touches down here in Edmonton on November 21 at the Pawn Shop (and the night before in Calgary at the Hifi Club). You can stream the video for “I’m Just Me” above.
Emil & Friends – Royal Oats (Kitsune). Downloaded this EP last night. I’ll let you know.
GRMLN – Explore EP (Carpark)
Houndmouth – Houndmouth EP (Rough Trade)
Of Montreal – Daughter Of Cloud (Polyvinyl)
Parks, Cale – To Swift Mars EP (Polyvinyl)
State Radio – Rabbit Inn Rebellion (Ruff Shod)
Titus Andronicus – Local Business (XL). I’m not sure about this. I tried to get into it, but I didn’t really like it as much as their first two albums. Is it good? Yes. Will it be considered for my top ten of the year? No. Did I even buy it for myself? No.
Volcano I’m Still Excited – self-titled (Polyvinyl)
