Honestly, this band’s sound is pretty much indescribable by anyone. I’ll let them take a crack at it, though.
YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN are a psychedelic noh-wave opera group fusing noise, metal, pop and folk music into a multidisciplinary hyper-orientalist cesspool of ‘east’ meets ‘west’ culture clash in giant monochrome paper sets.
I saw their name in the Sled Island lineup (of course I did, I typed the damned thing for my blog post here); and then realized that they were also playing the Pawn Shop here in Edmonton on May 23rd, and was curious enough to check them out. And they’re, like I said, indescribable, but indescribably good. Stream “A Star Over Pureland” for yourself below. Their album “YT/ST” is currently available, both on bandcamp, and for your iDevice.
PS – tickets to the Edmonton show are still available at Blackbyrd; I picked mine up yesterday.
