It’s really no surprise I’ve quickly become a fan of Emily Wells. Though currently of Los Angeles (previously Indianapolis and Amarillo), her music could easily come from the great prairies of Canada. If her sound was a pasta dish, you’d start with folk al dente, add in classical sauce, and top with a haunting and sorrowful voice protein. She began learning violin at the age of four, and when performing live, plays drums, guitars, analog synthesizers, and beat machines.
Her passion reminds me of Jack White. Her voice is reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan. Her songwriting reminds me of a mix of Crash Vegas and Mazzy Star. And she’s got a new record on the way by the name of “Mama”, which will drop April 10th on Partisan Records.
Mark the date on your calendar, and check out her track “Passenger” below.
