LIVE! Honheehonhee at Wunderbar (Pics & Dates)

by New Music Michael on November 16 2011

Monday afternoon was the city’s first significant snowfall, and it basically caused traffic to go to complete hell. Part of me was not looking forward to venturing out, but sometimes that’s just part of the responsibility of being a music blogger. I couldn’t be happier how it turned out, though. First, I jetted over to the Haven Social Club to see Snowblink and Ohbijou (more details and pics on that show tomorrow).

I didn’t get to see too much of the Ohbijou set, because I had to jet across the city (and by jet, I mean cautiously drive at 50 km/h) to the Wunderbar in Old Strathcona to see NMM favorites and friends Honheehonhee. Regular readers will remember they were part of the first NMM showcase back in June, as the band was already in Calgary for Sled Island. I was initially hoping they’d be the final band of the night so I’d get to see more of their set, and frankly was momentarily shocked when I arrived and they were already starting their last song “We Only Go”. Regardless, I yanked out the camera and just started hitting the fire button. The indie popsters from Montreal are crazy-chaos-frenetic-more-energy-than-a-tsunami live, a show not to be missed if you get the chance, a fact that’s born out by the accompanying photos.

They also perform great music, of course, and their newest CD “Shouts” is now available (and at their merch booth if you see them live). There’s only two dates left on their current tour, including the album release party in Montreal, but Honheehonhee loves to tour, so make sure you watch their website for future dates. Details on the remaining gigs follows the pics.
