The Sonic Boom rumors continue throughout twitterverse, with the only end in sight the official announcement by radio station Sonic 102.9 on Friday morning at 7AM.
For those of you that aren’t local, Sonic Boom is a one-day modern rock festival here in Edmonton, curated by our local modern rock radio station, of course – Sonic 102.9. Rumors have been bouncing around the last few months, the latest of which I’ve heard (for headliners) as Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with Cee-Lo Green (which does makes sense since he cancelled as the opening act for Rihanna’s local date). I’ve also heard Death Cab For Cutie, but since they were just in town I don’t think that one makes a lot of sense. Metric, of course, is a band frequently noted in discussions as well, they’ve been in at least one Sonic Boom that I can recall, probably others.
The rumors heated up for yours truly even more last night, as Sonic tweeted me that one of the bands will be off the last list of recommendations I sent them for their new music show on Sunday nights. I of course am dearly hoping for it to be Joy Formidable (pictured), but after looking at their tour itinerary I’m not sure it makes sense; and while they never play them on the radio, another NMM favorite Braids might make more sense, since they still owe us a show from when Rachael had laryngitis.
I guess we’ll find out tomorrow morning! You can bet I’ll post the lineup as soon as I know it.
